Cymru’s intermediate teams are getting set for their opening fixtures of the new year as preparations begin for the upcoming qualifying campaigns.
CYMRU WU17
Cymru WU17 will look to take their positive ending to 2022 into the new year after sealing promotion from Group B5 in the first round of their UEFA Euro Women’s U17 Championship qualifying campaign.
Nia Jones’ side scored an impressive eight goals and kept two clean sheets in two 4-0 wins over Montenegro and Israel respectively to ensure they will be playing in League A for the second round this year.
Cymru begin the new year with a friendly triple-header in February, taking on Czech Republic, Serbia and the hosts Portugal.
The friendlies will serve as good preparation ahead of their League A fixtures against hosts the Netherlands, Finland and Sweden, which will take place in March in Oldenzaal.
Cymru are bidding to reach the finals for the first time and will look to be one of six teams qualifying alongside hosts Estonia.
CYMRU WU19
Cymru WU19 will look to bounce back from their relegation to League B as they get set for the second round of qualifying for the UEFA Euro Women’s U19 Championship.
Nicola Anderson’s side will kick off the new year with a friendly triple-header – against hosts Portugal, Poland and Iceland – in February to aid preparations for their competitive fixtures.
Attentions will then turn to the second round of their qualifying campaign as they take on Kazakhstan and Estonia in a three-team group, with Cymru hosting the mini-tournament in April.
